Lucky Fish: A Symbol That Feels Like Home
Some designs begin with a gemstone or a beautiful charm. Others begin with a feeling.
I have always been drawn to fish. To me, they feel lucky—symbols of abundance, perseverance and continuing to move forward. Fish also appear throughout Asian art and symbolism, so perhaps my connection to them comes partly from my Japanese heritage. There is something familiar and meaningful about them that has always stayed with me.
That feeling inspired my Lucky Fish Necklace and Lucky Fish Earrings.
A Little Symbol of Luck
Fish are graceful but resilient. They move with the current, adapting when the water changes while continuing on their journey. I love the idea of wearing a small fish as a personal reminder to keep moving forward and remain open to the good things still swimming our way.
The Lucky Fish Necklace is delicate enough for everyday wear, but its meaning gives it a presence beyond its size. The coordinating earrings carry the same symbolism with a little movement of their own. They can be worn together as a set or separately when you want just a subtle touch of luck.
My Love Affair with Mother-of-Pearl
I must confess: I am a little obsessed with mother-of-pearl.
Its appearance is dreamy and clean, yet never plain. When the light moves across it, soft hints of pink, blue, silver and cream shimmer beneath the surface. That natural iridescence gives every piece a quiet glow—and because it comes from nature, no two pieces look exactly the same.
Mother-of-pearl feels especially beautiful in the Lucky Fish designs. Its luminous surface reminds me of sunlight dancing across water, making the fish appear almost as if they are moving.
Jewelry with a Personal Connection
These pieces bring together several things I love: meaningful symbols, natural materials and jewelry that is easy to wear. They also feel personal to me. The fish connects gently to my Japanese heritage, while the mother-of-pearl gives each piece the luminous, ethereal quality I am always drawn to.
Jewelry does not have to be large or elaborate to hold meaning. Sometimes a small symbol is enough—a little reminder of where we come from, where we are going and the good fortune we hope to meet along the way.
