How do I choose my blog topics?  After having written a few, the topics I enjoy are usually the ones I personally struggle with or find useful in my life.  I am a big personal development junkie. Reading eBooks and listening to podcasts on the subject helps me to understand how we, as complex beings, work.  Unlike any other creature, we have a limitless capacity for growth.

However, in order for me to grow, I had to delve into what thoughts were messing with me and affecting my life’s outcome.

According to scholars, the average person will have more than 6,000 thoughts a day, with 85% of them being negative and 95% were exactly the same repetitive thoughts as the day before.  They discovered that what we worry about mostly never happens.  And if the worry did happen, most discovered they could handle the difficulty better than expected, or that a priceless lesson sprung from it.

What you think on a daily basis, compounded over months and years, are the results of where you are today.  Remember the adage, “what you think, you become.”

Therefore, taking a deep look at what thoughts you allow to run rampant in your mind can help with reaching goals and living a life with purpose and meaning.  It also exposes how hard and unkind we can be to ourselves.

As I reflect on my youth, my thoughts would be centered around self-doubt, self-image, and a lot of worries. As I got older, my thoughts would replay past experiences, which meant I was unable to move forward. What a mind mess.  Now, I feed my mind healthy stuff, on the regular. I take care of it.  I am aware of my thoughts and work on keeping them going in the right direction.

If you constantly have the same thoughts over and over again, they may need to be resolved in order to move forward.

Professional help is always a choice. Personally speaking, I have found journaling to be a great way to free your mind. Every morning, the first thing I do is write my “morning pages”.  I learned this from Julia Cameron, author of “The Artist’s Way”.  She suggests a morning mind dump.  Three pages, freehand, pen to paper, I write what’s on my mind.  I’ll write things that are bugging me, happy things, grateful moments, whatever… It allows me to express myself, uncensored. I noticed since I’ve been doing this my day starts off lighter, more Hakuna Matata.  Whatever thoughts were blocking me from being my best, is now left on the morning pages to deal with.  It’s freeing.

Crystals have also played an important role in my quest to guide where my thoughts go.

I use their energy to keep me mindful.  I like to set an intention for my crystals, so every time I gaze upon them, I am reminded of it.  It diverts my thoughts to something positive and hopeful.

Lastly, focusing on the breath and meditating with crystals is another way to change thought patterns.

If you find your mind going to the dark side, sit quietly with your crystal, close your eyes, focus on the crystal’s energy, and breathe. Listen to a guided meditation if you find your thoughts wandering. This will help wash away the tension and allow you to focus and visualize a more positive feeling.

Below are the best crystals to help with your thoughts.

We are great thinkers, complicated creatures with unlimited potential. So why waste our precious thoughts on dumb stuff?

Above all, we should be taking care of our thoughts, catering to them and exposing them to the best places, feeding them the best experiences.  Being aware of what we think allows us to change the pattern if it goes south. Using crystals, meditation, and journaling helps free your mind and make way for positive thoughts and emotions. Remember, “what you think, you become.”
